Support for Young Adults, Athletes 4 Cancer
Since 2011, the John Wayne Cancer Foundation has donated $133,900 to Athletes 4 Cancer to make it possible for young adult cancer survivors to participate in 5 week-long support programs. Overall, the Foundation has funded a total of 48 cancer survivor support group programs in 19 states.
“The bonds that were created and the lifelong lessons that I learned are unlike any I’ll ever have the chance of experiencing anywhere else.” -Participant
These programs enrich the lives impacted by cancer through the healing power of the elements and the tenacity of the human spirit. The programs focus on rebuilding and renewing lives after cancer. Cancer may have spared these individuals their lives, but the scars left behind are often more severe than the fight itself. The program helps survivors thrive in life, not just survive.
