Grit Story: Melinda P. from Walton, WV

Four years ago I had a CT scan because of a large cyst on my ovary. The report also showed I had nodules on my lung. Over the next 2 years, the nodules were evaluated and grew very slowly. Last year I had what was supposed to have been a Wedge Resection, but learned a lobectomy was performed instead because I had stage 1 Adenocarcinoma. Since then I have follow up appointments every 6 months to re-evaluate. I am so grateful, but also feel guilty since I didn’t have to go through chemotherapy or radiation. Sometimes I feel guilty even saying I’m a cancer survivor. John Wayne inspired me to fight cancer by his strong willingness to survive and be loved by so many.
