Grit Story: Rory P. from Jamestown, NY

In the spring, I was diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer. My doctor agreed on hormone therapy and radiation. However, in June I was diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer, which put prostate treatments on hold. I had surgery to remove the bladder cancer, but a low-grade UTI put further bladder treatment on hold. Currently waiting for these issues to clear up so they can treat the bladder to stop a return of the cancer. The John Wayne Cancer Foundation does key work to defeat cancer. The Foundation may be John Wayne’s greatest legacy.

A nurse told me I need a cancer hero. I instantly said John Wayne is my cancer hero because he fought bravely and faced the Big C. She said he lived much longer than was expected. He inspired me to fight and keep fighting like he did.
