Grit Story: Bill S. from Lansing, MI

I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when I was four years old. I received rounds of chemotherapy for the next three years. For anyone currently going through a battle with cancer, I would say that the shots and procedures don’t get any easier, but you will find a way to get through it every time. Im 26 years old now. I admired John Wayne’s courage and straight-talking. There’s no beating around the bush with Wayne. That’s the attitude you need when fighting cancer. You can’t tiptoe around the seriousness of this disease. You need to know the situation, accept it, and face it with courage – much like Wayne did while filming the Shootist.
