Announcing the 2018 Sean Hunter Research In Action Walk

The John Wayne Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the 2018 Sean Hunter Research In Action Walk, benefiting cutting edge brain cancer research at the John Wayne Cancer Institute led by Dr. Santosh Kesari. Save the date and join us for this second annual walk on Sunday, February 25th at Corpus Christi Church in Pacific Palisades, CA.

This event was created by Sean’s mother, Michele, together with family and friends, after Sean’s diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumor at the age of 20. After 18 months of treatments, surgeries, radiation and chemo, doctors told Sean to go home to hospice. Michele could not accept that for her child, so she found someone who could help – Dr. Kesari at the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Dr. Kesari used out-of-the-box therapies to treat Sean, and his team gave Sean an additional precious year of life with his family and friends – time he would otherwise not have had.

Dr. Kesari understands the urgency of improved response to therapy and is working to accelerate the development of novel therapies for brain cancer through drug innovations, immunotherapy, and efficient trials. “The only thing standing between those trials and the patients who need them is funding,” said Dr. Kesari.

Funds raised from the inaugural walk have already made a direct impact on brain cancer patients. In the past year, Dr. Kesari was able to accelerate the progress of several areas of clinical research for brain cancer, including doubling the enrollment of clinical trials from the prior year! Let’s keep walking and raising funds in honor of Sean and all those impacted by brain cancer.
